Setting

The year is 1998. Five years ago, a catastrophic meteorological event shook the world, resulting in sea levels suddenly rising by 150 metres. Coastal nations disappeared overnight. London, Amsterdam, Cardiff, and entire lowland regions were lost. The Netherlands, Denmark, southern England, and much of Wales and Scotland are gone.

What remains of Europe has banded together as the New Europa, while the surviving regions of Northern England form the Northern Isles Confederation (NIC). Across the Atlantic, the survivors of North America regrouped as the United Peaks of America (UPA). For years, communication between continents was impossible, but within the last 12 months limited internet contact with the UPA has been re-established. Australasia and other regions remain silent.

In this new world, the radio is everything. Television infrastructure was impossible to maintain, and the internet is still in its infancy with development significantly set back. The New Europa Broadcasting Corporation (NEBrC) was founded in 1993 as the only official broadcast network, transmitting government updates, survival instructions, and eventually, entertainment. And so, the presenters on NEBrC are international superstars.
