Experience
The onsite players will be radio presenters for the New Europa Broadcast Company (NEBrC), household names in a world where radio stars are the last true celebrities. Their voices have carried comfort, distraction, and a sense of normality to millions of isolated listeners for years.
The presenters live and work aboard a repurposed UK naval vessel, permanently stationed in the North Sea to maximise broadcast range across New Europa. The ship is their workplace, home, and stage. Presenters rotate in crews, living aboard for weeks at a time before returning inland.
The radio show itself will be broadcast live privately to a discord server for remote listener players and organiser NPCs, who will then be able to interact with the radio show via in-game emails, web forums and telephone calls.
Only the audio of the radio show will be broadcast, so remote listeners won’t be able to see the onsite players at any time, although there will be a visual component to the livestream.
Over the course of the larp the onsite players will lose access to the internet and telephone communications, with the last of these external connections being lost before the final 2-3 hours of the larp.
The services will still be available to remote listeners, and the onsite players will gain access to them after the larp has ended, as a time capsule of the end of the world.
The Larp will start at 4pm on Friday when the radio show goes live until 10pm, so that players have a chance to play their characters outside of ‘work’ hours.
The radio station will be live on Saturday from 10am, and will continue to be live until 10pm which will also be the end of the Larp.
The technical side of the radio station will be handled by the organisers, who will also be in the studio as a producer-presenter to support onsite players during their shows.
You will be able to create your own playlists of music to play during your shows, in addition to an existing catalogue of 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & early 90’s music.
Whilst not on-air you will be playing on interpersonal relationships that will likely change in tone over the course of the event as the news rolls in that the presenters won’t have a home or family to go back to.
For some presenters, this is their last shift before retirement. For others, their first major slot. Rivalries, friendships, and affairs have brewed in the close quarters of the station. Everyone knows the importance of their role: keeping the world entertained, connected, and hopeful.
The Larp takes place during a world-ending event, resulting in the remaining parts of the world being completely flooded, and leaving the presenter players as the only people left alive.
The presenter players will discover this in real time throughout the game.
The Presenter players will have a limited view of the disasters occurring across the world, but will be required to report on the disasters in real-time via government news bulletins, as well as getting updates from remote listeners via the in-game internet.
We hope no safety issues occur over the course of the larp, but due to the unique nature of the larp with broadcasting content and internet interactions, both presenter players & remote listeners may be removed from & lose access to the larp at the organisers’ discretion.
