Characters
The onsite players will each have prewritten characters, and after the signup process we will be contacting players to get their preferences regarding interpersonal relationships & play.
This is to allow players to pick a radio show they are comfortable presenting out of character and also getting the roleplaying experience they’d like from their character.
We are pairing up the radio show hosts into duos who will present their shows together and also have close interpersonal connections with each other.
You will have the opportunity on the sign up form to let us know if you’d like to sign up for a specific duo with another player.
Given the unique nature of the larp requiring players to produce content for their own radio shows, whilst we have created presenters & duo for each show these are really starting points for your own ideas.
With this in mind you will have the opportunity to suggest your own idea for a radio show/presenter and/or your own idea for a duo on the sign up form, however we want to ensure there is range of different styles of radio shows in the schedule.
Each duo will have dedicated time slots for their show to happen during the larp and we will be running the radio show like an actual production, so if you aren’t a morning person perhaps aim for the drive-time or late-night hosts rather than taking on the breakfast show!
During the larp you’re welcome to guest on each other’s shows as long as everyone consents to this out of character, and we assume this will happen naturally towards the end of the larp.
Radio show duos:
Veteran Broadcaster + Rising Star (Breakfast Show Duo)
The Veteran Broadcaster is a long-standing, trusted figure in the NEBrC who has been here since the start, and is finally about to retire from the role after training up their new replacement.
The Rising Star, an energetic and ambitious presenter.
Poised to inherit the Veteran Broadcaster’s prime slot & already a hit with the listeners, although not yet fully trusted by the NEBrC higher ups.
Golden Oldies Host + Storyteller Host (Relax & Rewind Duo)
The Golden Oldies Host curates music from well before the flooding.
Seen as a comforting, familiar presence by long-term listeners, they create a cosy corner of the schedule, remembering a simpler time with their co-host, the Storyteller.
The Storyteller Host delivers short stories, readings, and listener-submitted writing, creating moments of stillness and reflection in the schedule in between the musical memories provided by their Golden Oldie co-host.
Science Expert Host + Curiosity Companion (Science & Curiosity Duo)
The Science Expert Host is a genuine academic, providing knowledge and explanations for everything from everyday mysteries and unusual historical events to bizarre scientific discoveries and listener-submitted questions.
The Curiosity Companion Host picks the brain of NEBrC’s resident boffin, presenting things from the perspective of audience, challenging assumption, and occasionally leading discussions down wonderfully absurd rabbit holes.
Comedy Double Act Duo
Energetic, mischievous, and improvisational, these 2 hosts loveable banter has become a staple of the schedule, and fan favourite.
Using wordplay, satire, and observational humour, they often initiate playful arguments, sketches, games & audience interaction.
Drive-Time Host + Light Entertainment Host (Drive-time Duo)
The Drive-Time Host is a relatable, charismatic presenter connecting directly with everyday listeners.
They bring a mix of talk, news, and human-interest stories during peak afternoon hours alongside light entertainment provided by their co-host.
The Light Entertainment Host focuses on quizzes, games & actively interacting with the audience, reading submissions and responding to calls or forum messages.
Pop Music DJ + Rock Music DJ (Pop & Rock Duo)
The true rockstars of the station, these two hosts share their airtime to bring chart topping hits across the most popular genres of music to the NEBrC listeners, alongside some friendly competition about who has the best music taste.
Agony Auncle + Relationship Expert (Lifestyle Guru Duo)
The Lifestyle Gurus are self-acclaimed professional advice-givers who take listener problems, emails, or call-ins and respond with a mix of humour, wit, and just enough sincerity.
Late-Night Confessional Host + After Hours Investigator (Late Night Duo)
The Late-Night Confessional Host is NEBrC’s confidant or “radio friend” when the world has gone to sleep. A warm, intimate voice that feels like they’re speaking to just you in the dark. They tends to focus on personal stories from listeners & provide quiet reflections, and grounding the show back in reality from the tall tales of their co-host, the After Hours Investigator.
The After Hours Investigator specialises in shining a spotlight on listener-submitted mysteries, strange events, and unusual theories.
Mixing storytelling, listener calls/messages, and eerie interludes, they provide some spice to the late night show, alongside the calming presence of their co-host.
